No Foolin!
We are all very excited about the variety of events happening this month!
Today is the start of National Lawn Care Month, an initiative from the National Association of Landscape Professionals to educate the general public about the many benefits of healthy green spaces.
We are also eagerly anticipating the return of our seasonal staff from south of the border. Their dedication and hard work are invaluable to our operations, and we look forward to welcoming them back.
On Friday, April 18, we will have our annual Spring Kick-Off Meeting and Cookout where we gather to review YardScapes’ Core Values, celebrate service awards, and enjoy a cookout and camaraderie.
Finally, on Saturday, April 26, we will host our annual Spring Day of Service when we perform property cleanups for a few local non-profits. Staff, family, friends and business associates join us on this day for a few hours of work and then a cookout back at HQ. Happy April! –Shayne

Integrated Pest Management
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that combines common-sense practices. It relies on comprehensive information about the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. By using this information, IPM programs manage pest populations in the most economical way, and limit pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.
“Pests” are not limited to insects and can also include weeds, rodents, pathogens (fungi, bacteria and viruses), and microscopic parasitic nematodes that can damage living plants causing damage and disease. Again, not all pests are worrisome, and some populations are essential for a well-balanced ecosystem.
IPM is not a single pest control method but a series of pest management evaluations, decisions, and controls. The process begins with setting thresholds, which are points at which pest populations or environmental conditions indicate that pest populations are tolerable or if control action must be taken. Monitoring and identifying pests accurately is crucial because not all insects, weeds, and other organisms require control. This step ensures that beneficial insects are not harmed, and the use of pesticides is used only when necessary and that the correct type of pesticide is applied.

Implementing IPM in your landscape management can lead to healthier plants and a more sustainable environment. By focusing on long-term prevention and using a combination of techniques, IPM helps create conditions that are unfavorable for pests, reducing the need for chemical interventions and promoting a balanced ecosystem.
