Gravels growing popularity is related to its increased availability and also to an expanding awareness of its richness in color, shape and size. Most people focus on its function and not on its form. Crushed gravel is rough on the feet at first, but over time the pieces lock together as they settle, providing a more stable surface.  Gravel also  holds weeds down, keeps moisture in and makes everything look neat and finished.
