October 4, 2008 – On October 4th, Shayne Newman, CLP, CLT, president and CEO of YardScapes, Inc., presented a check totaling $6,500 to the MVP-SOS Foundation at their fifth annual fundraising dinner, wine tasting and silent auction. YardScapes, Inc. raised the funds for the charitable organization by sponsoring and organizing the second annual Bob Rasor Memorial Golf Classic, previously the Quad-Am Golf Classic, held July 7th at The Club at River Oaks in Sherman, Connecticut.
Newman is founder and owner of YardScapes, Inc., northwestern Connecticut’s leading provider of residential and commercial landscaping services, and he helped create the annual golf tournament to specifically benefit MVP-SOS’s non-profit ambitions to support New Milford’s youth in academic and athletic endeavors. Through the YardScapes Charity Fund, and donations from other area businesses and individuals, contributions made during 2006, 2007 and 2008 totaling $23,5000 have helped MVP-SOS contribute to numerous area organizations. Donations have been given to New Milford Youth Baseball/Softball’s Express Baseball; Schaghticoke Middle School’s 7th Grade “Boston Adventure” and 8th Grade “Learning Adventure” to Orlando, Florida; The Youth Leadership Program of the Housatonic/Shepaug United Way; New Milford High School’s Film Club, cheerleaders, art department and grad party; and to individuals in need.
Run entirely by volunteers, the 2008 Bob Rasor Memorial Golf Classic raised $6,500 primarily through sponsorships and donations from local businesses and residents. With (76) golfers in attendance, raffle ticket sales and a live auction added to the success of the event. “I’m very proud to once again be able to be in partnership with this great organization of people committed to the kids in our town. MVP-SOS continues to build momentum and that’s my hope for the Golf Classic,” stated Newman.
MVP-SOS is a volunteer non-profit foundation dedicated to raising funds to help New Milford area’s youth participate in athletics, school, and community activities regardless of personal financial resources.
