WELCOMING WINTER TO LITCHFIELD COUNTY! 12/22/21

WELCOME WINTER!

The darkest days are behind us with the arrival of the winter solstice yesterday morning when at exactly 10:59AM, Earth’s north pole was tilted the farthest from the sun that it will go. Many also refer to this day as the “shortest day” or “longest night” because the number of daylight hours are the least, while dark hours the most. We welcome winter with this change because Earth made the turn back and we will now gain precious minutes of sunlight each day up until the summer solstice, or longest day, next June 21st, when Earth turns again. While the solstices and equinoxes traditionally mark the changing seasons, modern meteorologists consider the winter season to be December, January and February simply because they are the coldest – to which we can attest!
As we all know, there are countless religious beliefs, faiths, customs and traditions surrounding this special time of year and however you celebrate, we wish you and those you care about much health and happiness today and throughout the coming year. -Shayne

AND THE AWARD GOES TO….

On Friday, December 17th, we held our annual Holiday Party and Team Excellence Awards ceremony. Due to Covid restrictions and for the safety of our team, this is the second year we opted to have the celebration on-site at our headquarters. That did not dampen the festive mood for the staff who enjoyed a delicious catered meal, a spirited gift swap, impressive awards, and generally festive party atmosphere. Please help us congratulate our exceptional winners and thank you for voting for your favorite ‘Scaper!

TEAM EFFORT (L-R) Cam Fairchild, Manny Parra, Tom Gambone, Helen Gonzalez Ramos. Each award recipient brings a positive attitude, stellar work ethic, and their own unique talents with them to work every day and make a positive impact on both their fellow teammates and their clients. Excellent job guys and gal!
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR – Tim Dunbar (L) was awarded Rookie of the Year in recognition of his willingness to learn, eagerness to pitch-in, exceptional attitude and work ethic, along with the outstanding quality of his work. SAFETY AWARD – Manny Pascoa was the 2021 Safety Award recipient. Manny’s commitment to the safety of himself and his teammates is commendable and he always makes sure his coworkers have the proper eye, ear, and personal protective gear whenever necessary. Thanks for looking out for us, Manny!
GOLDEN MOWER AWARD – Joe van Veen was our Rookie of the Year in 2020 and this year Joe’s been recognized for his exceptional skills in mowing and continually wowing our clients with his impressive mowing patterns and thorough property clean up.
GOLDEN PRUNERS AWARD – Manny Labanda was awarded the Golden Pruners award for his extensive plant knowledge and pruning techniques that ensure the health, shapeliness, and beauty of the plants he cares for.
GOLDEN SHOVEL AWARD – Jali Landin was the winner of the Golden Shovel award. It was remarked that Jali loves “the big jobs” and is a very hard worker. This award recognizes the skills necessary in digging, preparing the soil, and placing plants and/or trees to ensure their growth and optimum health.
2021 ‘SCAPER OF THE YEAR – Manny Labanda retained his crown and was again awarded ‘Scaper of the Year for 2021. Tom Gambone and Cam Fairchild were runners-up and voting was extremely close between these three men. Great work guys and thank you for your commitment to the team and to our clients! We replaced our 2-ton sign out front of headquarters! We’ll repurpose the old sign into a very large and extremely heavy outdoor table for use at HQ.
