What exactly is a hardscape? Basically, anything that isn’t a natural, horticultural element like a plant or tree. Hardscape elements can be made from natural material such as a stone walkway or wood deck, or out of man-made materials like a concrete patio or a metal garden bench. Typically, the hardscape elements on your property do not change and an engaging and fascinating “softscape” will be designed around them or created from scratch to look like they’ve always been a natural part of the property. Add in some strategically placed landscape lighting and your yardscape will really stand out. Now is the time to talk to your landscape consultant about any projects you have in mind! -Shayne
“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” – Warren Buffet
LIGHT UP YOUR NIGHTS
Correctly placed landscape lighting not only looks great, but it also offers you additional safety around your property once the sun goes down. Path lighting helps reduce slips and falls while motion-activated lights can alert you of movement on your property.
Landscape or hardscape features can be highlighted with professionally installed outdoor lighting that dramatically transforms the night and affords you more time to spend outside enjoying your yard. Various types and styles of lights can be used for different effects depending on what you are looking for. Spotlights? Path lights? Floodlights? Electric & solar? CFL or LED?
Talk with your landscape consultant to discuss your ultimate lighting goals and the many options available.

Arbor Day is April 30th
While in years past this was a time for volunteer opportunities and community events for all ages, current CDC recommendations make this year very different. But that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate! Stay tuned for proper planting techniques in the next issue or give us a call if you need assistance in choosing the right tree or location to plant it. ArborDay.org
