IRRIGATION & WATERING
Proper irrigation and watering practices not only help in conserving water, but also promote healthier and more beautiful lawns and gardens by helping roots grow deep and strong, resulting in a flourishing landscape.
- Monitoring rainfall amounts with a simple rain gauge
- Installation of an irrigation system
- Reseeding with drought-tolerant grass varieties
- Installing a rain barrel to collect water for use in watering your gardens
- Aerating the lawn to reduce compacting and allow water infiltration
- Increasing the mowing height and leaving blades of grass longer, shades the soil and reduces water evaporation.
GARDEN MAINTENANCE
- Spring & Fall Cleanups – done in early spring to get your property ready for the growing season and in late fall to prepare it for the winter
- Mulching – to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds and improve aesthetics
- Plant Scouting – inspecting for pests, diseases or other issues before they become problems
- Edging – Creating neat and tidy borders around beds or hardscapes
- Supplemental watering – During dry spells to keep everything green and growing
- Deadheading to encourage more flowers and prevent seed formation.
DESIGN AESTHETICS
Landscape design is a fascinating blend of creativity, practicality, aesthetics, art and tradition that can all intersect in a beautiful way. Balancing these aspects can be tricky for the DIYer, but with some guidance, anyone can have an attractive and inviting yardscape.
- Balance and Unity: Achieving balance in a landscape involves placing elements evenly throughout a space. These can be symmetrical (think mirroring) or asymmetrical, but unity ensures that all components help convey a single theme or style.
- Contrast and Flow: Contrast adds visual variety and interest by using different or unusual textures, colors, or forms. Flow guides the eye through the landscape in the most delightful way helping to highlight features.
- Scale and Proportion: Scale relates to size of each element in relation to each other and to the overall space. Proportion assures balance is kept by using elements of the proper size..
- Layout and Circulation: Design layouts should facilitate movement and access easily around a property. Paths, walkways, and seating areas guide users through the space and encourage interaction with various elements.
- Zoning and Practical Use: Zoning divides the landscape into functional zones (entertaining, gardening, relaxation) and influences the ultimate placement of patios, decks, gardens, or play areas.
WELCOME SUMMER
While the unofficial start of summer was on Memorial Day, and the meteorological summer began on June 1st, the first day of summer is officially marked by the summer solstice. This year, the solstice happens on June 20th at 4:50 PM when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the sun at the same time the sun has reached its highest position in the sky. This results in the longest day of the year, or, the day with the most hours of sunlight.
Summer is the season that the majority of people look forward to with road trips, sandy beaches, and warm nights spent outdoors. While we are no different, our summer days are filled with stunning properties in full bloom and the sweet smell of fresh cut grass. In addition to lawn and garden maintenance, we are also busy with designing and installing beautiful and functional patios, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, and seating areas that will give our clients inviting outdoor spaces for them to relax or entertain in while also connecting – or reconnecting – them to nature.
