We’ve wrapped up the “green-season” and are now going full bore with fall cleanups. To celebrate the transition, we held our annual Family & Friends Oktoberfest at the beginning of the month. Although it was a cool, rainy day, everyone had a great time and we crowned new YardScapes Cornhole Champs!
We also participated in Touch-A-Trade this past weekend in Kent, CT. Touch-A-Trade is an initiative of Hudson Valley Preservation, with a mission to support the development of the next generation of trades and craftspeople.
Next month we look forward to our annual Day of Service and Rake & Bake volunteer day of service. On this day, staff, family, friends and business associates come together for a day of performing cleanups at a few local non-profit organizations. After all the work is performed, everyone returns to HQ for a cookout. It’s a fantastic team-building event and one of our most attended! -Shayne
NEW CHAMPS!
Shayne passed the trophy to Jonnathan (C) and Juan (R), the newly crowned YardScapes Cornhole Champions during the YardScapes’ annual Family & Friends Octoberfest! Congrats guys!
Communities across America have a problem.
As tradespeople are retiring and fewer youth are entering the trades, contractors and homeowners are facing a shortage of skills and experience. Now is the time for communities to mobilize to ensure the transfer of knowledge to the next generation.
Touch a Trade is an initiative designed to address this problem by sparking the individual’s interest in working with their hands.
These events offer youth and adults alike the opportunity to safely participate in trades, crafts, and self-sufficiency skills with their own hands. Activities included carpentry, woodworking, masonry, welding, plumbing, electrical wiring, along with arts and crafts and pumpkin painting for younger attendees. Local food and music were also on hand for participants of all ages to enjoy.
‘I’ll take you and bake you,’ she said. And she gave it a pat. The pumpkin tried to look very scary. But it just looked big and FAT.”
HOUSATONIC VALLEY ASSOCIATION
The Housatonic Valley Authority (HVA) is a conservation organization dedicated to the entire 2,000 square-mile tri-state watershed from the Berkshires to Long Island Sound. The HVA’s mission is to protect the natural character and environmental health of the entire Housatonic Watershed for this and future generations.
In mid-November they will hold their annual fundraiser, Auction for the Environment, and we are pleased to participate again this year by donating a silent auction package.
In addition to its local Cornwall Bridge office, HVA also has offices in Stockbridge, Massachusetts and Wassaic, New York and they administer numerous programs and events throughout the year.
A future of clean, cool rivers and drinking water, thriving woodlands and wildlife, and livable communities for our children and grandchildren – together we can make this happen. Learn more at www.hvatoday.org.
