Hartford, CT, December 2, 2008 — YardScapes, Inc., the New Milford area landscape company, is a recipient of the Connecticut Psychological Association’s 2008 Psychologically Healthy Work Place Awards.
The Connecticut affiliate of the American Psychological Association honored YardScapes, Inc. with two of its five 2008 Psychologically Healthy Work Place Awards: Employee Growth and Development and Employee Recognition at its annual awards luncheon on November 14, 2008.
The CPA’s aim is to “advance the principles of psychologically healthy workplaces through their educational programs, bringing together Connecticut’s business and psychological communities to jointly address issues impacting employee well-being and organizational achievement, as well as through their awards program, honoring Connecticut companies and organizations that demonstrate a commitment to workplace health and well-being with innovative, yet proven, programs and policies that support a psychologically healthy work environment.”
Following a rigorous selection process including nominations, interviews and site inspections, YardScapes was chosen among Connecticut businesses both large and small to receive these awards. Not specific to the landscaping industry, the awards are particularly meaningful to Shayne Newman, founder of YardScapes, Inc.: “to be recognized by such an esteemed group and one that looks at business across the board, not just landscaping, is really an honor.”
YardScapes, Inc. implements programs and policies that encourage and reward employee growth while promoting a relaxed but professional atmosphere. Called “innovative” by CPA member and Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. David Tate, YardScapes’ incentive programs have yielded results beyond Newman’s expectations. “The programs are gaining momentum and I see the guys energized, excited to learn.”
The New Milford area landscape design company is in good company as other honorees include Pratt & Whitney and The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
In accepting the awards Newman emphasized the importance of teamwork and his hope of changing the perceptions of landscapers to include career-minded individuals who set their own goals and take pride in their achievements.
A resident of New Milford for 22 years, Newman founded YardScapes in 1990, having worked in the trade since 1987. YardScapes is a full-service landscape design, construction and maintenance company located in New Milford, Connecticut.
