OVERSEEDING & PLANTING FOR SPRING COLOR

We are now less than three weeks away from the 17th Annual YardScapes Quad-Am Golf Classic. Player registration sold out quickly for another consecutive year and now we’re in the “last call” phase for sponsorships and donations. To be included in the printing of the event materials and to be recognized in any signage, the event brochure, press releases, social media posts etcetera, we will need your pledge by Friday, August 26.

As of this writing, we are only $1,100 short of matching last year’s sponsorships, and with a little help from our friends like you, we can certainly meet or even surpass that. Sponsorships start at $50, and we are also accepting in-kind donations of goods and/or services for the silent auction and raffle. If you have already pledged a sponsorship or donated a product – thank you!

2nd PLACE FINISH!!

 

YardScapes men’s softball team had an impressive softball season and finished in 2nd place with an overall record of 18 wins and 6 losses! The playoffs came down to the very last game, and unfortunately, we weren’t able to pose with the 1st place trophy this year.

A sincere thank you to everyone who sent their good luck wishes or came down to cheer us on.

overseeding

Over seeding is a fantastic way to fill in bare spots, repair drought or high-traffic damage, thicken the grass, rejuvenate the turf, and establish a healthier lawn. Late summer/early autumn is the best time to perform over seeding because overnight temperatures are great for germination and strong root growth, while daytime temperatures are not too hot for the tender seedlings.
Our over seeding process follows many critical steps to make sure it is successful and mowing, aeration, and thatch removal help ensure the best results. If the soil is not prepared correctly the entire process suffers and may not produce the desired outcome.
The soil first needs to be loosened or sliced to make sure there will be optimum seed to soil contact. Next, the proper amount of seed per square foot must be used. If not enough seed is used, the new grass will be too sparse and thin. In contrast, if too much seed is used, the new growth will be too thick, restricting critical air flow and inviting mold, stress, and disease.
The new seeds must also be properly fertilized and covered correctly to keep the soil moist while allowing the seeds to germinate. Watering is critical at this time and should continue until the grass is tall enough to be mowed.

We are still enjoying summer but we are skipping past fall and winter right now to focus a little attention on spring! Who doesn’t look forward to all the beautiful flowers that color the spring landscape after the grayness of winter?
Now is the time to speak with your landscape consultant about fall planting for spring blooms! With proper planning, early and late flowers and shrubs can be strategically placed so their flowering times are staggered and you get to enjoy a spring filled with gorgeous spring colors.
Whether you like a classic manicured garden, a more naturalized one, want to attract pollinators or address a neglected area, adding spring-flowering plants in the right places will give your property inviting visual interest while also providing pollen and nectar to the early bees and other beneficial insects.
There are a few things that will ensure the success of your fall bulb planting. First, you must know that not all bulbs are planted in the fall! Flowers like begonias, dahlias, and elephant ears should be planted in the spring. You must also know the depth, spacing and light requirements that each bulb needs to thrive.
As with any landscape design, first you need to decide on the final goal. Are you looking to fill in some small spaces? Attend to a shaded, wet, or unused area? Do you want to grow flowers for cutting? Are you planting strictly for color? Interesting foliage? Heavenly aromas? Yes, there is a lot to consider!
