March 7 Living with Ticks, Full Fert Program, Mulch Madness
Just because we are landscapers doesn’t mean we are always looking at what’s under our feet. This morning the full worm moon reached totality but tonight it will still look very full, very bright, and very large due to our brains tricking us with “moon illusion.” While you’re out there taking a look, you’ll also see the planets Venus and Jupiter.
This is an exciting month as we anticipate the return of Daylight Saving Time this weekend, and the “official” arrival of spring in two weeks! With the mild winter we had, we are ready and eager to get out there and begin making properties gorgeous for the 2023 green season. ~Shayne
Ticks have become more and more resistant of our New England weather. The combination of warming global temperatures, above freezing winter temperatures, and years with little to no snow cover, their winter dormant period has become so much shorter in recent decades that experts acknowledge year-round tick activity.
One of the best ways to discourage them on your property is to keep it properly manicured and free of extra organic material which ticks use for shelter. Small rodents like mice are the main carriers of Lyme disease so keeping them off your property is advisable too. Remember that bird feeders not only attract birds, squirrels, and bear, they also attract mice looking for an easy meal of seed.
Ticks and Lyme disease are not to be taken lightly. Please take all necessary precautions when spending any time outdoors and contact your landscape consultant if you are having any pest problems.
The lawn is the foundation of your property and the place where everything else will sit. Our comprehensive lawn care program ensures the health of your turf and addresses any problems there may be. We start with a complete soil analysis that helps us identify nutrient deficiencies or other soil issues. If necessary, we’ll then recommend corrective measures and adjust your lawn care service accordingly. If no adjustments are needed for your soil, our standard fertilization program is followed.
